From the Ashvegas Hot Sheet:
Skateboarding enthusiasts turned out in force last weekend for an art show/fundraising event at the PUSH skate shop gallery on Patton Avenue. It was organized by ceramic artist Alex Irvine, who’s also an avid skater.
The sculpture on display was actually the steel skeleton of a new concrete ramp that skaters plan to build at a grass-roots skate park in the River Arts District known as the Foundation Spot. Skaters have already built a few obstacles at the location, which was once the concrete slab warehouse floor. (The warehouse walls are gone, but the slab is intact.) Irvine said the goal is to raise $2,000 and have the concrete poured by the end of July.
